MTH Tampa: One Year Later

Hello everyone! First off, THANK YOU for the wonderful words of support and encouragement for my latest blog post--words cannot adequately describe how comforting it feels even just reading words of encouragement. It truly fills my heart.

So this has been a whirlwind of a week--big announcements, my birthday (wooohoo 32) and prepping for our site to launch early next week, but this evening, I wanted to take this post to acknowledge something very near to my heart and that is a workshop (movement) I took exactly a year ago (today) called Making Things Happen with Lara Casey, Emily Ley, Gina Zeidler and Natalie Norton.

A year ago, I was a different me. I felt stuck, in a funk, unhappy in my current employment and as a wife and mother, feeling like I was failing miserably.

When I signed up for Making Things Happen, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had long followed Lara Casey's blog and figured "why not?" When the first day came and I walked into the room, all I feel was a sense of relief that I didn't really know anyone else. Not sure why I felt this way other than the fact that If I was gearing up to bare my soul, it would be easier to speak in a room full of strangers then with people I knew...don't ask me why...but that's how I felt at the time. As a workshop (and I really have to find another word because "workshop" just doesn't cut it) unfolded, I found myself letting go of a lot of feelings that had been built up for sometime and seeing that my path was right there in front of me, ready for the taking. But to get there would require a lot of guts, hard work and most of all, deep seeded passion which I, and everyone else in the room had. I knew that I had to feel the fear that had paralyzed me for some time and take action to change my life. It was going to be hard, but oh, so worth it.

And it wasn't that Lara, Emily, Gina or Natalie sprinkled fairy dust on everyone and magical things happened, but in their own, very personal way, reminded all of us that we had what it take to make things happen, it was just a matter of opening our eyes and seeing the big picture.

So I, along with several other women embarked on a wonderful (and hard) journey this past year and I'm privileged to consider them my friends. The week before when I was getting ready to resign from my position and needed my "pep talk" it was a godsend to sit down with a few of them and be reminded of where I was going (McKay, Desiree and Kate-Thank You).

But most of all, I'm honored to see their successes and growth everyday. I love everyone of you and can't wait to see where all of us will continue to go from here!

On that note, the one thing I'd like to leave all of you with a picture of my latest love and newest addition to the "Clamp clan." He's a bundle of 12lb joy and partly (okay, hugely) responsible for my delayed post today.

A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CHIC SWEETS

So it's with a mixture of excitement, nervousness and deep pride that I share with all of you that starting January 18, I will be devoting my love and attention to Chic Sweets on a full time basis. I'm leaving an amazing job as the "Network Manager" for The Network of East Hillsborough Neighborhoods, a wonderful organization aimed at engaging residents in a BIG way and spreading out quality programming in several East Hillsborough communities. This decision has weighed heavy on me for some time but I can tell you that this work fills my heart in ways that make every sacrifice, both big and small, worth it x's 1000 (maybe more).

This year I realized that in order to make things happen I had to take the plunge, set goals and most of all, take action. My work has always been a part of me, a big part of who I am....and when things grew in ways I never imagined, I found myself deeply torn between doing what I was good at, versus taking the plunge into a business that was still growing. Add the pressures of being a wife and mother, well, I can't lie--it was more than I could handle at times. Ultimately, though, I made the decision that in order to be the best wife and mother I can be, I had to wake up in the morning doing what sets my heart of fire and that my friends, lies here in Chic Sweets.

Thanks again for all the love and encouragement I've felt from all of you--my friends, my supporters, my family and most of all, my husband, Steve, since the truth is, without him, I just don't make sense.

Your Wedding Bands, Desserts and Photography

Hey Y'all! So I swear I have a bunch of blog goodness stored up in my head, but these past few weeks have been a blur of holiday events, my Baby Preston, (trying) to juggle my other bundles of endless energy, and plowing through a rebranding process...let's just say, I'm really looking forward to enjoying a few days off with the hubby ("the boss man").

But before I get ahead of myself, I wanted to share a few shots of our clients' wedding bands displayed with our candy. Going through the process of overhauling our site has been fun, but it's also allowed me to go through a lot of our past weddings and photos. One of the shots that I love to feature are when photographers play around with our client's wedding bands. For me, candy=fun, and when a photograher can play off the items on our table, it's just great and most of all, something different.

Thankful

Hello Everyone!! Hope all of you have had a great Thanksgiving Holiday! I know I have as I'm sitting here, three days later, in my stretchy pants. This has been a different Thanksgiving for us, family, Baby Preston, growing business...the list goes on. So in honor of the craziness, I thought I would share the three very things I'm *thankful* for today.

1. Love. Love. Love. Love for my husband, my best friend and my business partner. We met almost ten years ago, working together for a national, soccer league in Tampa. And today, we work together as partners with Chic Sweets. I have to tell you, there is something very special about being able to work with your spouse. Steve is not only my husband, but my true partner in every sense of the word. Someone I turn to as a friend, as a colleague, someone I can brainstorm fantastic (crazy) ideas with, and then someone I can come home, lay on the couch and watch "Dexter" with. I'm a lucky girl.

2. Children: Brendan, Spencer, Carson and Preston. I can't lie. It's crazy. It's busy. There are times when Steve and I look at each other and want to run for the nearest exit. But it's our life. And the craziness is our own and that is something we are extremely protective and proud of. This was our first Thanksgiving with Preston and all I can tell you, is that we are silly-happy with our lil guy.

3. My Work: Three years ago, I sat down on couch with my husband, debating what our next jobs would be. We both worked full time but had frequently picked up second jobs every now and then to bring extra income into our household. This time around was different. I didn't want to pick up a second job that didn't mean anything to me, that I didn't love and most of all, that I didn't feel fulfilled in. So after some brainstorming, Chic Sweets came about and I'll be honest with you...not a day has gone by that I'm not grateful for having made that decision.

Does that work ever end? Nope. Is it insanely much harder than I thought it would be? Heck, yes.

Do I love it? So much, my heart bursts.

For that, I'm thankful.

Preston George Clamp...20 days

So here I am with, laying in bed and staring at the most beautiful, bundle of goodness you can ever imagine. Can everyday be like this? It's been almost 20 days since Baby Preston came into our world and it's been a mixture of total bliss and exhaustion.

I gave birth about a week early before my due date. It's amazing, the process of child birth. This is my third son, and you would think I would be an ol' pro at the this, but every experience was so very different. My last birth was very quick, labor was under five minutes and without an epidural. So this time around, I was very much on board and determined with going "all natural."

So finally, on October 28, I was induced at St. Joseph's Women's Hospital. My little guy didn't waste anytime because within the hour, I was grabbing the rail, drenched in sweat, both my husband, Steve and mother becoming a painful blur in the background. I could see their mouths moving, but was just completely lost in my pain that I couldn't hear anything. My wonderful nurse, Sandy, gave me a knowing glance and said, "Natalie, you are at 7cm. This is it, if we don't do the epidural, it will be too late. Don't worry, you have nothing to prove by trying to do this without the epidural." "Okay, she's totally right. Let's do this." Now, this is where it gets slightly funny. By the time my epidural was put in, my stubborn-self was already pushing. And within 20 minutes, Preston came into the world. Ironically, since the epidural takes about 20 minutes to take full effect, it only really kicked in, once he was born...yeah...I know...too funny. So there I was, holding my bundle of joy, but with no feeling left in my legs!

After the labor, Steve and I settled into our hospital room and examined every bit of goodness, that I call Preston. I mean it. Serious. Perfection. There is just no way to describe it. Although it was a two-day hospital stay, I truly cherished the time alone with Preston and with Steve. Then it came time for Spencer and Carson my little boys to meet Preston. Wow...10 months of preparing them is nothing when they got to hold them for the very first time. The look on their faces is something I will never forget. And of course, there just aren't any words to thank my parents for holding down the fort at home while we were at the hospital...I know it wasn't easy!

So since coming back from the hospital, our lives have been a total whirlwind. Adjusting to life with Baby Preston, introducing Preston to Spencer, Carson and Brendan (my stepson), breastfeeding, trying to not to feel too bad about still walking around in my maternity sweatpants, having a few whytheheckishecrying moments. And oh yeah, still running Chic Sweets. Is our life crazy? Um, yes. Would I have it any other way? No, in fact, I can honestly tell you as sleep deprived as we are right now, I could not feel more blessed than I do right now. This pregnancy and this past year, have been unbelievably difficult, yet, Steve and I have managed to come out of this, stronger and more committed to making our lives work. God is definitely GOOD.

On that note, instread of turning this blog entry into an epic-novel, I opted to give all of you a slideshow of a few photos, played alongside a song that literally brings tears to my eyes everytime I play it.

Hey everyone! Wow, okay nearing my last hurrah with Baby Preston, so I'm determined to leave you with some great events before I depart (briefly). This next one is by one of my favorite, no seriously, I mean one of my most favorite people, Jamie Billig from Confetti Events. Jamie has this insanely unique way bringing the best group of vendors together-- to create an event that really just took my pregnant self to another level.

This event was to launch the opening of Barger Estates. This breathtaking venue is now available for rental (weddings, corporate events/retreats, parties, etc.) The Barger Estate features elegant styling and architecture and yet has all of the modern amenities that make for the successful staging of almost any event....and yes, I did catch myself daydreaming once or twice about what it would be to live here ;)

Photography and your Business

So one of the most frequent questions I get asked is "how did I start out with great photos on our site?"

The truth is, in the very beginning, there was nothing I could do but use a few digital images that I had taken when I volunteered to do a few tables for close friends, baby showers, my son's baptism, etc. Was I happy? Nope, hated all the shots but I had to start from somewhere. Eventually, once I established some relationships with partners in the industry (photographers, event designers) did I start to get requests to do photoshoots....

Photoshoots: Now this can be a beast in itself. I'll be honest, had no idea what a photoshoot or what was expected from my end. Luckily the very first shoot I did was partnered up with MMD Events and Limelight, two partners that were able to tell me exactly what the feel for the shoot was--color palette, overall style, design, etc. From there I realized that photoshoots were a great tool for me to decide the type of shots I wanted.

What to do once you have pictures: Besides jumping up and down because you can FINALLY see your work through a professional photographer's lens, is decide how the pictures are going to be used. Is the intend of the photoshoot to submit to a great, wedding or entertainment blog, promote a venue or product, or was the photoshoot simply a tool to build the photographer's portfolio and of course, your own? There can be a multitude of reasons, but either way, just make sure that you are on the same page as everyone else on the team.

The shot (above) was submitted to a great entertainment blog, called The Cake Blog. Got me some great buzz off the feature and right from the start. Of course, the pictures were submitted only after getting the "okay" from the other photoshoot partners (Limelight/MMD Events) and in the end, they were thankful since everyone involved, recieves credit (no questions asked). Again, this goes back to building on those relationships!! If a photographer or other industry partner, sees the value in partnering up with your business, you'll find that the opportunities will start coming.

Other ways to use photography (with photographer's permission and credit): I created great photobooks that I take to all of my personal consultations and bridal shows. The books are my voice and I go to them constantly as a point of discussion, for inspiration, ideas, etc.

Investment: Every vendor's investment in the time, work, products/services put into a photoshoot are different. In my case, my investment was not only time, but an actual product (candy/desserts). This forced me to evaluate my marketing costs and what photoshoots meant to my work. What is more valuable to me right now? Spending money on ad space in a magazine, or getting involved in a few photoshoots where I could build what, at the time was a weak portfolio. In my case, the answer was clear.

Trade-outs: Sometimes I was able to build on my portfolio without having to do a staged shoot. Whether it be agreeing to do a dessert table for a photographer's grand opening or a Holiday party for a networking group, I always ensured I would be able to recieve the images afterwards. Again, just simple ways vendors can create opportunites for eachother.

Finally....it's okay to be picky: Now that I've been in business a few years, I have adjusted a bit, but overall, I continue to wholeheartedly believe in the value of photography and what great shots have meant for my work. Are there times I say, "No?" Of course. Everything has be a great fit--is this the type of photoshoot you want to participate in? Is the timing right? Can you afford to do a shoot at this time? Is the ultimate purpose of the shoot in line with what you are looking to build on? Don't be afraid to ask yourself these questions (everytime).

Well, I hope I was able to provide a bit more insight into my relationship with photography and it's value to my work. Will touch on advertising in a few weeks...

The Don Vicente Inn is one of my all time favorite venues. It’s the perfect combination of historic elegance and style and to be honest, some of the best dessert tables we've done have come out of here. And this next one, photographed by Kenzie Shores Photography, is at the top of our list.

Not only is the venue a great backdrop, but I absolutely love it when a bride isn't afraid to go out of the box with an intense, jewel-toned color palette. Throughout the process, Lauren had an incredible eye and had an opinion and vision for every aspect of this dessert table. She was a lot of fun to collaborate with and of course, inspiring to alongside with.

Marketing--In the VERY Beginning

So every now and then, I receive a few emails from other designers wanting to know how I got started in the VERY beginning, how I started up my site with amazing shots and styled photoshoots of my work, referrals to great partners in the industry, and typically I hold off on responding because the truth is, there were quite a few steps in the journey so I thought I would share a bit of personal insight from when I started.

1. Research...Research....Research (FREE): This is a big, okay huge, one for me. I knew from the moment I decided to become a business owner, that I wasn't going to rush the process. As much as I wanted "the now," I was going to take my time. This led me to the big question, of "how the heck do I get myself out there?" I spent hours scouring different businesses in the industry: florists, photographers, planners, wedding blogs, event designers, venues, etc. High-end, low-end, I wanted to soak it all in. I made a spreadsheet with every site I had been to, along with all of their contact information. I also got in touch with NACE, a great organization (along with a few others) that seemed to cater to the businesses I had been researching.

2. Your Visual Brand ($50+): I did spend some time on this, even it wasn't pretty at first. And if you can invest in this step, I say go for it. A few weeks ago, I dove much deeper in the topic of visual branding here. I purchased my domain through Go Daddy and got going through Fat Cow, and had a friend help me with a template (my current site) which had basic functionality, to upload my content and my photos. I designed my current logo using Microsoft Publisher and clip art (if you can believe that). Using my logo, I also created my business cards ($50.00 to $250.00). In the beginning, yes it can be hard, but I told myself that it was more important to just get out there and when I could elevate the look of my product, I would.

3. The Big Plunge, Making Contact ($150.00 to $200.00): I knew off the bat that whatever came out of my hands had to beautiful. At this point, I had done less than a handful of dessert tables with some "okay" pictures but I had to make it work. I went to Staples and got white, glossy laminated folders, clear labels and photo paper. On one side of the folder, I made a personalized letter (not dear Vendor, Dear XX Events) and on the other side, I did a one page collage of the work, along with a mini-bag of jelly beans. I took my Excel spreadsheet of contacts and just went at it. Was this time consuming? Yes! Halfway through, did I want to give up? Um, yes, but then I figured if I stopped then I probably wasn't built to be a business owner in the first place.

4. Follow Up, Follow Up, Follow Up (FREE): Two weeks after my mailers went out, I went back to my list and followed up with EVERY one of my conatcts via email. And it just wasn't any email. Every email was extremely personalized. After my "research phase" I would regularly visit my contacts websites so it was easy for me to say "Hello Amanda, my name is Natalie from Chic Sweets. Hopefully by now you've recieved a packet of information. Can I just say, that I love your latest blog entry from the wedding you did at XXX. Fantastic!....." Or something along those lines. And you know what? I was getting responses back! Once they responded, I went onto the next (scary) step which was scheduling meetings.

5. Face to Face Follow Ups ($20 to $25): Again, kind of nervewracking if you've done anything like this before, but as I mentioned before, I was determined to make things happen. Although there were a few that did not have the time to meet, for the most part I was able to catch up with quite a few. Before I went into each meeting, I always had a plan/agenda in mind:

Introduce YOU: Be honest. Be yourself. Be Authentic. I made a point from the very beginning to put it out there. I was new; still working full time; still trying to make connections; still working on my (weak) portfolio. And you know what? As humbling as it was to be so honest, there wasn't a vendor I spoke with that couldn't relate at some level, which in return always made for good conversation and more importantly, great advice and further connections.
Get to know the VENDOR: Not everything can be about you, right? Just like a job interview, I went into each meeting, knowing as much as I could about that vendor. Visited their website, their blog, facebook page, other vendors they had worked with in the past. At times if I felt nervous or that there was a lull in the conversation, I would go back to what I knew about the vendor and take it from there.
Marketing Materials: Although I was working full time, I didn't want to spend a fortune on creating materials for each visit, so I kept it somewhat simple. Since I'm a "sweets girl" I created a small favor package full of sweets, with not my logo but THEIR logo on the package. I just assumed that I was one of many "newbies" reaching out to these industry vendors on a weekly basis, so why not give them something that was personlized for them? Great response from this AND many times the vendor would go back (after our meeting) take a picture of what I had created for them and post it on facebook or twitter....with something along the lines of "chic sweets visited us today! Yummy sweets" Again, just another small tool that created a buzz.

Okay, so I'm sure there are a few things that I'm missing, but hopefully this gives you a general idea of where I took my buisness for the first few months. Will aim to touch on my experiences with photography, press and advertising in future posts.

Halloween Inspiration: Daytime Segment

Hello Everyone! This will be one of the last weekends before wedding season hits us in full force, so I can honestly say it feels beyond amazing to have a day, with minimal plans and with my family. BUT (big BUT) being the woman whose wheels are always turning, I'm gearing up for a Halloween Dessert and Fall dessert table in the next two weeks for a wonderful corporate client, which brings me back to a few segments I did for the morning show, Daytime with Cyndi Edwards and Lindsay MacDonald.

This was the first of a few segments that we did and it was an amazing, amazing experience that I will forever be grateful for.

Meet the Team: Chic Sweets's Attendant/Designer/Stylist...the list goes on.

Very excited to (finally) have a moment to shed a little bit of light into those that help make Chic Sweets happen. People sometimes give me far too much credit for the work we do and don't get me wrong, I'm always so flattered by the love but it would be dishonest if I ever gave anyone the idea that I do it on my own. And trust me, I'm still there at times, and there are quite a few days (I call them "the black-hole days") where we do everything out of our home and I look like a crazy-mess. But as Chic Sweets starts to evolve I'm forever reminded of the constant help that we have and in trying to keep it real, I'd be nothing without them.

So let's start with Vanessa. I met Vanessa when I made the decision to collaborate with my dear friends over at MMD Events on a Style Me Pretty photoshoot with Limelight. It's funny, there she was...looking absolutely gorgeous and little did I know that months later, that we would connect again. And I'm not going to lie, I was nervous since up until that point, I had been at every wedding, every event, but Vanessa managed right from the start (well, the first 5 mintues) to ease any fear that I have.

In addition to being a Chic Sweets' "Candy Girl/Attendant," Vanessa is also helping out on the creative side as well. She has set up tablescapes entirely by herself and her sense of design and style are just plain impeccable. Not to mention her personality makes for great company and well, let's face it y'all, dealing with a 3rd Trimester mommy and "the boss man" hubby is not easy.

Lookin' forward to working with Vanessa for a long long time and am excited to share more about her, starting with a few questions...

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT CHIC SWEETS? "Candy Girl" ;) I wear a lot of different aprons at Chic Sweets; I am an attendant, assistant, candy taster, roadie, expert bow tier, and table designer/stylist.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO US? The lovely Amanda Allen asked me to model for a Chic Sweets "Style Me Pretty" photo shoot! I had so much fun posing on rocks in heals while holding a jar full of gumballs that when Amanda contacted me and asked if I was interested in helping out. I jumped at the chance to work with the fabulous Clamp's and Chic Sweets some more!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SWEET? Chocolate!

CHILDHOOD CAREER DREAM? As long as I can remember I have wanted to be an event planner! For about 5 minutes in high school I thought I wanted to be in politics. I enjoy the discussion, but don't have it in me to go that route...parties are much more fun!

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE? In life: Working and being a full-time student for four years was one of the most challenging things that I have done, but I was determined to graduate on time and with no debt! SUCCESS! With Chic Sweets: Neiman Marcus' Fashion's Night Out event, adults attack candy tables in a way that children never do...so incredibly CRAZY busy that night!!! Out of tons of candy in only an hour and a half!

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST PART OF BEING PART OF THE CHIC SWEETS TEAM? This probably sounds cheesy, but honestly I have made two AMAZING friends! Natalie and Steve are awesome and have instilled so much faith in me. They have given me such a wonderful opportunity to learn about the industry and to have a REALLY YUMMY creative outlet!

WHAT TWO ADJECTIVES THAT BEST DESCRIBE YOURSELF? Thoughtful and Energetic

Real Party: Chloe's Pink, Grey and Red Dessert Table!

Hey y'all! Okay, I'm just going to come out and say it...we've been burning the midnight oil here at Chic Sweets, so at 34 weeks pregnant I am going to admit that when I'm not working my tail off, hangin' out with the kiddos or decorating Baby Preston's nursery, I'm asleep with my swollen feet raised up under a dozen pillows!

So onto more interesting topics other than my venting, EXTREMELY excited to share with you this latest party. This table was for Chloe's 2nd birthday and was shot by her amazing mother Shay Cochrane, owner of Shay Cochrane photography. We were lucky enough to work with Shay on a previous photoshoot here with Every Last Detail. And if we go back even further, we first crossed paths during Making Things Happen with Lara Casey--a workshop and journey that has changed my life forever.

Shay also happens to be a genius photographer who was able to turn around some great images. I mean, really, I just keep on staring at these pictures...the lighting.....the daisies...the way all of the colors pop...the backdrop...I can honestly say that it's photographers like Shay that help bring my work to another level. It's taken me some time to write this post. Just wasn't sure where it would go so I'm just going to stop overthinking everything and just let my fingers do the typing.

We just wrapped up a hectic week with midweek events, running on NO sleep, on edge, stressed out...near tears and breakdowns more times than I can count. Thank you God for my parents that have an amazing sixth sense, and were able to change last minute plans to come and help us both recharge. Mom and Dad--if you happen to take a look at this, there just aren't any words except I love you both. That's all.

So after everyhing is said and done, we were gearing up for my son, Spencer's first day at school and I can't even begin to tell you the emotions that ran through both my husband and I. Here I was, with a laundry list of my own issues, and everything suddenly became very clear for me, and yup, the clouds parted. And that inner voice, crept up, reminding me as to why me and husband work our butts off and why we do what we do. It's so I can wrap my arms around Spencer and smother him with more kisses than he will ever want. It's to see that goofy smile of his and send him off to school. It's so he can one day look back and see everything his parents did for him and know that there isn't anything he can't do in life. And although life may be seem particularly tough at times, nothing will ever be important than family and the love shared between all of us.

Spence-y, I love you so much and I feel so amazingly proud to be you mama and cannot wait to start this journey with you, my silly, little goof ball.

And my breakdown when we said goodbye. My husband pushed me out of the classroom before I completely lost it..hee...hee.

Rebranding and Lessons Learned

Hello everyone! Hope all of you are having a great week! I've been a bit scattered lately--you would think that having a slow week or two would be a much needed rest, but ironically it just reminds me of how much I need to catch up on....which in turn, makes me want to hide my 7-month pregnant butt under the covers!

In any case, some good news, website and blog are coming along wonderfully. Karrie Pyke has been ever so patient with me and it's just great to work with someone that just gets it. It also has involved a lot of homework on my end--what do I want the site to look like? Feel like? Ummmm....

To begin with, I was very cautious about entering the "rebranding" territory because I don't take that term lightly. It seems like everyday I'm hearing about a new site relaunching, but I'm a firm believer in that your logo, the colors, symbols, and tagline do not alone make up your brand. Honestly I wish it was that easy. For me, a brand is the collection of everything you say and everything you do, all rolled up into what defines your brand. Changes in your approach, redefinition of core values--all of this happens below a level that your client would even notice. So bottom line? A name and a logo are key to getting recognized, but despite what many would think, they aren't the be all and end all, not by a long shot. And that my friends, has given me plenty to think about.

So on that note, above is a little glimpse into the site...just a glimpse. Still a long way to go but we are getting there. I just can't imagine how I'm gonna feel when this all comes together--to be honest I have so many feelings at this point, it's still hard to process. What else is there--let's see...updating marketing materials, continuously working on inspiration boards, narrowing down photos that will make the site and oh yeah and working on some different concepts that will be included as an add-on to our services. The ideas are there, just can't wait to see it all come together.

Rusty Pelican Wedding with Mandy and Me Photography

When I realized I had to write this blog post I found myself getting sad. I have to admit, I got very attached to my bride's wonderful mother, Maria. From weekly emails to phonecalls, by the time the wedding came along, I felt like I knew Maria better than my own bride (in a non-stalkerish kind of way, I swear). Luckily, Maria is one of those wonderful mothers who still, months later, stays in touch with me, so I can still hang on! :)

This wedding was absolutely beautiful. When Larissa (our stunning bride) saw the table, the first words out of her mouth, was "that is exactly what I was envisioning!" Indeed, by the time this wedding came along, Maria and I had covered every detail--from the black and white damask backdrop to the various shades of pink that would cover the table through the candy and desserts. And to add the sparkle, all of our vessals were lined in a bright pink paper.

And moving forward, I will be sharing a glimpse into the design behind each of our tables. I'm always one of those that likes to know all the behind the scenes stuff, so I figured I would share a bit of what goes into when we design each of our tables!

Baby Preston's Nursery and Redefining my Workspace

Hello Everyone! Feels like July has completely flown by. I thought June would be a lighter month for us but we were busy-working bees up until last week. Had a blast producing some great dessert tables but oh, so grateful to have a breather and catch up on some much needed rest (and some blogging) for the next few weeks.

So I wanted to share some fun work I've been doing with Baby Preston's room. As you know, our family is growing by the second, an..er...month and space in our home is getting smaller and smaller. I had intended to convert my 3 year old's room into my workspace but with Baby Preston coming in October, plans had to change...just a little bit. Since I'm one of those stubborn moms that refuse to believe that I can't have a career, family and a little space I can call my own, I'm attempting to create a space that will work not only for Baby Preston but for me as well. I know...I know...I may fail bitterly at all of this, but what can I say, I'm stubborn as hell! Not to mention that with all the challenges of being mommy and pregnant, it's been quite refreshing to throw myself into something different and that doesn't involve my work.

So, where do I start? Well, first I'm tackling Baby Preston's side of the room, using a gender-neutral palette that will work for the whole room. Picture below. In addition to the color palette and geometric patterns in the bedding, also using vintage airplanes to add "the boy" element.

Currently, we've tackled painting the room which I should paraphrase by saying that I picked the paint and my gracious husband took care of the rest. Everything turned out better than I can imagine and I have to say that all the times my husband has painted dessert table backdrops must have really come in handy because he did an AMAZING job.

So what's next? Well, narrowed down the bedding which I'm super stoked about. Since I couldn't translate what I had in mind to anything I liked in stores, I turned to ETSY seller, Katie Bug Creativity who put together fabric swatches for me....can't wait to see how everything will turn out. Now just looking to add-on to the room with additional decor....and ...er...well, trying not to break the bank at the same time, so we'll just have to see how that goes (hope hubby is not reading this)! Once I start making some leeway on the nursery (side), I'll start working on my workspace. More updates to come...wish me luck!

Yippee! Love when I get photos to share. This one was put together without much time, but I thought everything turned out wonderfully. It was also one of our first times working closely with RSBP's Brooke Palmer. Brooke is an AMAZING person with not only a knack for putting great productions together, but along with her work in the nonprofit industry and public relations' clients...she truly does it all.

Some details about the Quince: okay, before we start, can we just pause for a moment and say STUNNING. Natalie's parents made sure to cover the details, from the breathtaking floral and event design, to the entertainment, everything just came together to create an evening I don't believe Natalie will ever forget!

Oh...and when I say entertainment, I mean, ENTERTAINMENT. The Beach Girls5 made an appearance and their performance was the highlight of the evening. Well, next to our dessert table, of course ;)

Hello Everyone!!! Hope all of you had a great 4th of July weekend. Honestly, am I the only one wondering why every weekend isn't a 3-day weekend??

Well, luckily, I have literally spent the entire afternoon soaking up the loveliness of this gorgeous wedding by Limelight Photography. And of course it helps, that you have our seriously, drop-dead gorgeous bride, Amy, who just happens to be one of the most sweetest people I have ever met. Amy approached her day with such style and personality, you can’t help but fall in love. From the very beginning, there was a vision and every detail of this dessert table was thoughtfully crafted and designed so that the table was a true expression of Amy and Brook's personality.

World: Meet Baby Preston

This picture was taken by Baby Preston's big brother, Spencer right after we found we were going to be parents to a BOY. I seriously still can't believe it. A boy!! My third!! Spencer, was so excited the whole week, just knowing he was to the doctor with Mama. Funny part is that although he was in awe at first... after 10 minutes he was so ready to go and get out of there. That is just how our Spence can be, Baby Preston will meet him soon, five more months to be exact.

Life these days has taken a whole new level of balance. As I've finally seem to come out of my first trimester morning sickness, I've learned to give my body some rest and just take some time out to pause and step back. That is a whole lot easier said than done since my whole life to this point has been running, working on Chic Sweets, being a mother and wife. But trust me, even in the midst of feeling exhausted with feet more swollen than I'm willing to admit, I could not be more blessed and everyday I look in the mirror and I'm still in awe that I taking care of something so precious.

So before (we) rest our head to sleep, just want to share some thoughts for my little nugget.

*My Dearest Baby Preston: I cannot wait to hold you, cover you with TONS of kisses and have you share in our crazy life. I can't wait to tell you that you can be ANYTHING you want to be in your life. I can't wait to show you that will grow up to do something that drives you, that sets your heart on fire and that you can be just like your crazy Mama and graduate from UF doing one thing only to find that your path leads you to something else. Preston, we love you so much and in 5 months I will get to tell you everything that fills my heart and so much more.

Real Wedding: Yellow and Black Damask Table by Lifelong Studios

This next dessert table is proof that inspiration can come from just about anywhere. And in this bride and groom’s case, it was all about the incredible black and yellow palette with modern, whimsical detailing. For me, I was also inspired by one of my dearest role models, Amy Atlas. A few years ago, Amy's black and yellow damask-prink dessert table was one of the first times I stopped dead in my tracks and told myself, "wow, that is amazing!" Amy is the queen of desserts, and if you haven't already, her Sweet Designs blog is a must-read.

In terms of overall design, Ally and Ryan were not afraid to "go there" and the result was a gorgeous, graphic inspired affair. Photographed to perfection by Life Long Studios and styled by Staci Mandikas and team over at Unique Event Design, you will love this wedding.

Branding and Growth

Hey Everyone! Wow, cannot believe it's a long weekend and we have no wedding--sooo looking forward to a much needed breather. So although I have a lot of blog goodness stored up in my head, one of the things I wanted to talk was branding. Now that I've been delving into this process/journey head on, I'd thought I would share some helpful tips that I've uncovered along the way. **Note to self: not an expert here! ;)

1. Be Yourself: Chic Sweets has come such a long way from when we started. I look at myself back then and can only smile--I thought I had it figured out. Who we were, what Chic Sweets was about, the image I wanted out there. I would spend hours scouring the internet ohhing and ahhing over where I could be. However, one of the biggest pieces I was missing in all of this, was myself. Being myself through my work, blog, social media intercation, color palette and anything that I put out there. When I started, I found myself working off the inspirations of other's and realized at one point...wow...this is not me. I hardly caught myself doing it. Who am I? I love classic looks, no fuss, clean lines. I'm all on board for simple color palettes with a splash of a bold color. I'm a perfectionist for the details and aim to always bring myself out through my work. I'm also a wife and mother, love doing both, always challenged by finding a common balance in all of it. So in taking the time to redefine my brand, I was somewhat challenged in bringing everything together. Until (light bulb moment) I thought wouldn't it be great to bring both aspects of my life together and that is what culminates into my brand?

Finding "The One": So if you've decided you want to take your brand to another level, next step will be to work with someone that can take your feedback/inspirational boards that will bring everything all together. This, of course, can be free or costly. Check out Proof Branding; Making Brands Happen; Studio Snyder; or my own designer (shameless plug) Karrie at Karrie Pyke Designs, for a professionally designed logo, blog or site. I spent a lot of time going through portfolios from various designers, getting references, until I found one that I felt was the best match from an artistic and of course, financial standpoint. I'm all about the baby steps so instead of doing everything all at once with Karrie, we first worked on our Logo and took things from there. This was great because I didn't feel the anxiety of being contractually held to a designer if things didn't quite get off to the right start.

***Let me add this as a final thought: Don't rush the process! As you can see I'm still using a Blogger template and my site was designed by my amazing brother just to help me get the ball rolling. Both have definitely filled my need up to this point. Starting a business is not easy and three years ago I wouldn't have been able to define Chic Sweets the way it has evolved now. It wasn't intentional at the time, but now I'm more than happy I took my sweet time before jumping into all of this.

The Design Process: This is where you need to really look into yourself and where you want to be. I literally took a half day, went to a quiet place, grabbed a large cup of coffee and just put various inspirational boards together. Whether it be just various fonts, pictures, colors. The more I felt like I could share with Karrie, the better she could see where I was coming from. When we finally put my final brand together, it came from a constant inspiration board that I was continually updating and changing. Cool colors, clean, modern, designer, mom of 3, family, etc. And so my amazingly, patient designer took those concepts and turned them into something I felt comfortable (happy) with. Yeah, I know, not easy. Be prepared, this is not going to happen overnight. Your designer will need time and you'll also take some time out of your schedule to review the changes, mock ups, drafts, etc.

So, again, this is my journey as it evolves and grows and I wanted to share with all of you a bit of where I was coming from. Super excited to see my redesigned blog and site launch and nothing feels better than keeping the momentum going. Hey, I'm making things happen here :)

Blue and Orange Gator Inspired Dessert Table

Morning Y'all! We want to start you off on the right foot for this Monday, so we are bringing you some seriously amazing photos from our dear friends over at Limelight Photography.

Now if you follow our work, you know how much we heart our friends over at Limelight. They have been our biggest supporters over the past few years and I just can't say enough about them. Of course, what we seriously love about this table is that our lovely couple, Robin and Byron wanted to go outside the box and create a Gator inspired dessert table. Now, being a proud Gator Alumni myself (raising arms, whoop, whoop), I was super excited, however, I knew this was going to be tricky especially when the entire room has an different color palette. Luckily, I think we were able to strike a balance between the shades of desserts, lining on all of our vessals and a lovely touch with the paper garland.

My Heart is Full

This weekend Chic Sweets had one of our busiest weekends yet. Happy clients, beautiful dessert tables, but I didn't want to make this blog so much about our work as it was about our team. So today I want to say, THANK YOU, my heart is full. There is something very special to be said about the people in your life who believed in you even before you believed in yourself and what I thought was a shot-in-the-moon idea to start a business.The people who've always supported you and your crazy visions while others stood by shaking thier heads and anticipating you'd fail or couldn't handle seeing you actually succeeding on your own merit.

So as I sit here hitting keystrokes, feeling a huge knot building up in my throat, there is something to be said about these unbelievable people and I believe that something to be said is simple: Thanks for believing in me when I wanted to give up and for laughing, crying, and having panic attacks with me along the way. Your unwavering faith in my work, leaves me without words....other than just massive amounts of love for all of you.

My heart is full.

Zlotnitsky Bat Mitzvah

Wow, two blog posts in one day-I'm on a roll here! Had the awesome, super-fun chance to work on a Bat Mitzvah for a very special client of mine. I can't lie--it's always great when the person you are working with gives you free-reign to design a dessert table. Maria, just really understood where we were coming from and allowed the design to just FLOW.

The colors were a combination that is close to my heart (orange and fuchsia) which I just adore, mostly because they happend to be my own wedding colors. ;)

Life Interrupted

So when I started this post, I thought it would be about where I was in my life, Lara Casey's Making Things Happen workshop and how my path has taken a lot of twists and turns as a business owner, wife and mother. I even made a video--can you believe that? It was hard but I felt only I could explain best in my own words. Then a few days before I planned on posting this video, my grandmother (the center of my universe) suffered a major stroke. And while I felt my world closing in, finding it hard to breathe, let alone get through the day...I was dealing with morning sickness.

Yes, that is right, along with the deepest lows, there can be incredible highs which can totally catch you by surprise. Yup, your's truly is pregnant and in my second trimester. We were excited and nervous but in the end, we cannot wait to bring another "Clamp" into our home. So with a lot of things happening (understatement), I think it would have been easy for me to turn the off button, close the door, and hide under the covers. A few months ago, that would have been the case, but one of the biggest lessons I learned from Lara Casey's Making Things Happen, is that me, and only me has the power to make. things. happen. And in the end, I took a deep breath and realized that I can do this. That despite the circumstances and hard lessons, I'm going to get through this and come out of it a better person.

So while I'm still struggling to understand my grandmother's current health situation and doing everything we can to make her better, I'm reminded every moment of the day that I'm going to be a mommy to another little one, sooner that I can imagine. I guess I can say that today my thoughts are simply to take what life has to give you, whether it be wonderful, great, awful, terrible and find that strength deep inside of you to keep on moving forward. Making the choice to open your eyes, get out of bed and live your life everyday with just love and faith, which is what I seem to be holding onto, everyday. Sorry, if that was a little to preech-y.

And as if this blog post could not get any longer, I thought I would go ahead and share the v-blog I had originally intended on posting before my world got flipped around a bit.

So I know it's been some time and forever since I've blogged. These past two months have been the busiest we've encountered since Chic Sweets began, two years ago. Of course, I'm super beyond happy at the growth but that has also come with some unexpected challenges such as can't-seem-to-peel-myself-from-the-couch to blog and update my readers. Add three boys and an ever-patient husband to the mix and it's been beyond crazy times for me.

In addition to working with clients, I've also been working to relaunch my site in addition to making some major life changes which I hope to share shortly through a video-blog. Yes, apparently I caught the video-bug so all of you can see me stumble as to find the right words to convey where I'm at in my life right now.

So now that I'm hopefully manage somewhat explain my current status, let's share some of the good stuff! Recently we were lucky enough to be asked by Every Last Detail wedding blog to participate in one of their Style Dictionary photoshoots. Readers picked the color palette and we took it from there. I also loved that I got the chance to work with Shay Cochrane Photography. I have long admired Shay's work so it may sound cheesy, but I always tend to get giddy when I see a photographer shoot my work for the first time--it gives me a chance to see my work in a whole new light.

Hey everyone! I know...I know...it's been some time since I've blogged. I've spent a big portion of this year, not only crazy-busy but took some time to regroup...set goals...all that fun stuff that we have to do as business owners. In a bit, I will be sharing some more information about where Chic Sweets is going this year, moving forward ( alot of exciting stuff on the horizon).

In the meantime, we were thrilled to be a part of Style Me Pretty's Inspiration to Reality series. These are coveted spots that Style Me Pretty gives and we were more than happy to be involved. Day of the Dead Inspired Dessert Table

Hello everyone! So much has been happening it's been so nice to take a breather and reflect on another great photoshoot that we were "had to pinch myself" lucky to be a part of of. This photoshoot was recently featured on Rock N Roll bride blog and was orchestrated and styled by MMD Events. If you follow our blog, you will know that we love, adore, kinda-sorta worship everything MMD Events. So when we were approached to create a Day of the Dead dessert our little wheels when into overdrive. Throw in there Jeff from K&K Photography and then Tampa Wonderworks...well, I'll let the photography and video speak for itself.

For our dessert table, we really wanted to be to capture the concept of the Day of the Dead period. This was not meant to feel punk or alternative but truly be inspired by what is a very cultural holiday for many. The colors, the backdrop with our so-cool skull and cake all came together to create one my favorite tables for 2010.

It is a happy, happy start of the week thanks in part to Candace and Thomas' wedding that is just bursting with a gorgeous fuchsia, pink and black color scheme, sophistication, and an awesome vendor team. Lets see, we have design and styling by Beth Carrick of Flawless Occasions who ALWAYS creates the most elegant affairs as well as crazy-amazing photography by Carrie Wildes and we can’t forget about those gorgeous florals by Dana Dineen.

Candace and Thomas were so great to work with--they had a very defined vision of what they wanted their wedding day to entail. Every detail for their dessert table thought out, created and incredibly fun to bring to life. Most importantly it was a beautiful representation of this adorable couple and their personalities.

Happy Holidays everyone! Just wanted to share our Holiday Dessert Table segment that aired earlier this week on the Daytime show (NBC). This was the final installment of a three part series with Daytime.

Overall this was such a great experience, but I smile when I look back at this moment because I was soooo frazzled. Very little time to get the final table together...forgot my milk shots....wanted to include Branches...wanted to wrap the brownies with parchment paper and some cute purple twine, and what about my hair? (Sigh) The list goes on.

Of course, now that I see the final product, I realize that it all worked out great and how incredibly blessed I was to have the opportunity. If you read my novel here, you should have a pretty good idea that I'm sooo ready, inspired and fearless for what is in store for 2011.

Can't wait!

So maybe it's too early to summarize the whole year, but I've just been reflecting of how wonderful, challenging, hard and amazing this year has been!

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be sitting here and living (working) my dream of starting my own business. Never could I have imagined the array of emotions that I would be faced with everyday. This evening's emotion: just unbelievably grateful. Grateful to those that took me in from the very beginning, believed in me, gave me a chance and continue to be my mentors everyday. MMD Events, Sandy Rule, Limelight, Cyndi Edwards, Carrie Wildes, Signature Events by Design, Staci Mandikas, Anglo Couture, Diana Tamayo, Monica Varner, Aymee Brace--Thank you for grabbing me by the shoulders and letting me know that I can do this.

And for those that have taken their amazing abilities behind the lens to capture my work-THANK YOU: to Phillip Lloyd, Mark Moberg, CSE Photography, Limelight, K&K Photography, Luminaire Foto, Carrie Wildes, Kimberly Dyer...without your work quite simply, I could not do mine.

The Cake Blog, Save the Date for Cupcakes, Style Me Pretty, Daytime NBC, Good Morning America ABC and Celebrations at Home--I'm not sure what else to say but thank you for supporting my work and bringing it to a larger audience I never knew was even possible. Truly, your support leaves me completely awestruck.

And to my unofficial cheerleader (minus the outfit), my husband. Who has supported me from the moment I sat him down and told him this was my dream. He lifts me up and carries me during the dark days and rallies behind me when I could not be happier. Most of all, he constantly challenges me to do better, be better, and most of all, be fearless. And at the end of the day, I'm not sure I would be at this place without him.

And finally (as if I could not make this any longer)...to my core team...they have loved me, supported me more, put up with me and stayed up in the wee hours of the night working with me...Gerald, Becki, Carmen, Josh, Jen and most of all, my family...THANK YOU.

Sorry for the novel...wasn't sure it wasn't going to turn out like this when I started. Just had the immense need to reflect and share all of my thoughts (and love) for this year!

Catching up on some blogging here! We were thrilled to be a cover-feature on Style Me Pretty a few weeks ago. This was an easy, laid back engagement shoot that we were asked to style for Limelight Photography. More and more we are finding that our clients are looking for imaginative and creative ways to show their personalities and still feel like themselves!

Hey Y'all! Hope everyone is having a good week! Recently we worked with a very special client for a house welcoming party for the client's family.

Let me tell you that in having seen quite a few weddings, there is one element that will completely devour my attention (besides candy) and that is Conceptbait's floral, which was in one word: MAJOR!

Perfect Wedding Guide: Bridal Show

Hope everyone had a "sweet" Halloween. Just thought I would share a few pictures from a recent show we did with Perfect Wedding Guide before we head out for the weekend! Love, love, love this color palette and wish I could work with it more.

Also love to experiment with different backdrops, in this case we did painted stripes, alternating all three colors. It was time-consuming to get it perfect, but the final product was definitely worth it.

Grand Opening: Carrie Wildes Photography & Events in Bloom

Carrie Wildes of Carrie Wildes Photography is one of our favorite photographers EVER. She always captures the most down-right gorgeous weddings where the love and emotion is so vivid, you can almost touch them. At Chic Sweets we have been extremely lucky to have Carrie capture our dessert tables (here and here). So when we were asked to provide a dessert table for the grand opening of Carrie's studio (shared with Events in Bloom), it was a no-brainer! Carrie has been a longtime supporter of our work so we could not more thrilled with how her company has grown.

One of the best parts of this table was that we were able to bring Carrie's work in as the backdrop which definitely made the table feel more personal. Also for our cake pops, we decided to put them on mini-icecream cones (recipe adapted from Bakerella).

Behind the Scenes-Daytime TV Show

So finally able to catch my breath on some much-needed blogging. We had the fantastic opportunity to appear on NBC-affliate (WFLA) Daytime TV Show to share dessert table tips for the upcoming holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Halloween, which is right around the corner.

All three segments were filmed in one day but will be airing at separate times. Our Halloween Dessert table aired last week and above are some behind the scenes shots. It was soooo much work and more involved than I could have ever imagined, but the final product turned out great!

So first up: Halloween! This was by far, my favorite table to plan. So many great projects for this one. From the glitter pumpkins to the pumpkin cooler, everything just came together wonderfully.

Real Wedding (sneak peek): Ashley and Scott

Okay, so I am officially making up for my blogging-drought (and cleaning out my camera).

Having a wedding at the Florida Aquarium just might be the best idea ever, but the coolness definitely doesn’t stop there. We are also head over heels enamored with how adorable Ashley and Scott are and how great they were to work with. The wedding colors of yellow and blue are simply to die for, and let’s not forget about that delicious looking dessert bar we put together for them. Being a fellow gator, I'm especially biased to the straw tags we created for them (a little suprise from us to them). Go Gators!

This is a busy time of year for my fellow photographers but professional photos coming soon. Promise!

Day of the Dead Shoot-Behind the Scenes

Just a little glimpse into the "lounge area."

I'm always in awe of the amount of work (and people) that go into setting up these shoots!

The table, mid-way through. With a lot of these shoots, there is a lag time from when you get there to when you start, so the table was worked on in phases.

My partner in crime, touching up our "skull decal." This was a big headache due to the intense heat but the final product looked really good.

Hey Y'all! Sorry for being so absent, just working a few big projects (which I will share as soon as I can). In the meantime, thought I would share some few "behind the scenes" for a Day of the Dead photoshoot, coordinated by MMD Events & Every Last Detail. Renaissance Vinoy Wedding by Limelight Photography

At Chic Sweets, we are so not afraid of color around here. In fact we say the more the merrier, and apparently we aren’t the only ones with a penchant for going outside the box of usual color palettes. I believe we found our match with our next couple, Colleen and Jared. Not only did they integrate their wedding with every ounce of coral, ivory and apple green they could muster, they also made sure to have every possible candy you can imagine at their dessert table.

Shot by the amazing Christi from Limelight Photography, this Renaissance Vinoy wedding has a personality of its own and we were in love with every inch of it. From the poms that we assembled from our favorite Etsy seller, Nai from Party Poms, to the wonderful Paper Source Lokta print that used to line our vessals, everything just really came together.

Style Me Pretty Feature: Photo Album Dessert Table, Part I

Happy Friday! Hopefully by now you have checked out our amazing Style Me Pretty feature here. We also wanted to share some of the wonderful shots here at Chic Sweets.

The story of this table really began with a cute little template from Two Yellow Shoes and I just really took it from there. Lots of times you may find that these photoshoots can become "overstylized" and maybe even overdone; however, I just wanted to create a scene that felt beautiful and serene.

Right away, I knew I wanted to do a ribbon backdrop. I just thought it would be great with the beach wind and add to the laid back feel. From there, the rest of the table fell right into place. We had a few challenges on the day of-the weather was completely chaotic. Huge thunderstorms loomed all around us, but we managed to pull it off! Thankfully, our other photoshoot partner, MMD Events provided a wonderful model (Vanessa), She did an amazing job despite the weather, and truly, could she not look more perfect? MMD Events also put together the loveliest of tablescapes that complemented the entire scene, and who to capture it better but our friends, Rebecca and Michael over at Limelight Photography.

Macy's Dessert Table with MTV's Callie Walker

So here at Chic Sweets, we were super excited when Kristina from Fab-Events called us to set up a dessert table for Macy's Back to School Show, hosted by the GORGEOUS Callie Walker from MTV's the Real World Washington D.C. It was last-minute but everything came together great. We actually do not get to work with red & black color palette too often so we were totally up for the challenge.

For our backdrop, we used some wonderful hanging bud bases and also mason jars from Pottery Barn (love that store). The rest of the table was complimented with shades of white candy, accented with black and red ribbons.

I couldn’t help but fall in love with this completely adorable wedding that Aaron over at Aaron Lockwood Photography sent our way. Aside from being held at one of the most fabulous St. Petersburg venues, the Museum of Fine Arts, it’s also 100% personality. Which you know we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE here at Chic Sweets.

The design behind this dessert table was all about featuring the colors that I adore: shades of pink, coral, and yellow infused the table and reception decor. They created a wonderful monogram and to make the design a focal point, it was blown up behind a curtain of ribbons, varying in different widths. The table was filled with different types of their favorite candies--gummi bears, gum balls, rock candy, etc. And to top the table off we added some adorable marshmallow pops, echoing the bright colors.

Thanks again to Aaron for the lovely pics! I also added a few of our own from my amateur-photo taking skills.

Adorable Circus-Themed Baby Shower

Hey everyone! I know…I know...we are usually all about weddings here but we did a dessert table for a baby shower not that long ago and I just couldn’t help myself!

We’re sharing this absolutely darling baby shower held for one of my favorite people ever, the fabulous Aymee Brace of Brides Florida, hosted by some of her best friends…Sandy Rule, Ashly Olivier, Gretchen Hill and Ashley McMahon who all happened to be some of the best in the wedding industry (lucky girl, right?), a dessert table by us and Phillip Lloyd who snapped the pics. The "fab-four" planned this platinum shower and did not miss a beat on any of the details for this adorable shower.

This dessert table was so much fun to design. We loved seeing the vision come to life--the colors, the red and white striped backdrop, the cute little "bunting" banner and what would a dessert table be without some favor boxes to take home? We took small, Kraft Gable boxes, filled them with some delicious chocolate dipped oreos and wrapped them twine with a cute little tag created by Andrea from Paper Presence. And for what had to be my favorite part of the table--Jones Soda Bottles in shades of reds and blues were topped off with the cutest labels, another adorable creation by Andrea.

Aside from the dessert table, we were also happy to create some wonderful centerpieces for the tables. And yes, the lollipops were even in bigger in person!

This was Aymee's third pregnancy and everyone always has such amazing things to say about her… there was so much love and joy in the room. All of us are wishing her and her wonderful family lots of love, laughter, health and happiness.

But before I get to the news, let me tell you that my morning ritual everyday consists of getting the kids ready for school, work, emails...but I have to say that one of my favorite parts of the day is sitting down and going through the crazy gorgeousness of Style Me Pretty's features. So you can imagine how honored we were to be asked to join the team! Yay!!

I love this next wedding for a few reasons. For one, I am a little obsessed with Lauren and Andrew, bride and groom…SO. GORGEOUS. Second, I love that they are truly, one of the most amazingly nice people you will ever meet. And finally, planned to perfection by Sandy Rule Events, the reception was gorgeous. The florals, the soft, clover green/ivory color scheme, a Chic Sweets' dessert table, the pieces all came together in such a great way. And photographer Phillip Lloyd was there to capture it all to his usual perfection.

Elegant Tampa Marriott Wedding by Sandy Rule Events

Okay, so I knew I would finally catch my breath at some point! Sandy Rule is one of those wedding planners that always works the most amazing weddings ever. Probably because she’s an amazing person herself so she's drawn to really amazing, wonderful couples like Meredith and Chris. OR, the real truth is that she’s good. I mean, really good at what she does and manages to make every wedding look effortlessly gorgeous. Put in a photographer like Mark Moberg of Moberg Photography, a Chic Sweets' dessert table and you have the ingredients for the most perfect wedding.

Dessert Details: As you can tell, my poms-crush continues. And I found these wonderful cutout letters from Martha Stewart which fit in perfectly with the black, white and silver color scheme. We used a simple filligree monogram so that was incorporated in the print materials/signage. If I can, I always like to work with the accent color as my base for the table (in this case, black) so we used that for our linens and it really makes the table pop.

Good Morning everyone! So sorry for the blog-drought! Between a few projects we've been working on here at Chic Sweets, we've been on over-drive but...I'm here and alive! ...And hoping to share with you some great inspiration in the coming weeks, one of which has been a wonderful photoshoot that was organized with some fantastic professionals in the industry (MMD Events/Limelight/Two Yellow Wedding Shoes/Linens by The Sea).

The idea behind the whole shoot was this laid-back, unique, vintgage-just looked-like-we-put-it-together scene on Anna Maria Island. We happen to do a dry-run of our table at a recent bridal show so I have a "sneak peak" of what our table look like (above).

Also, on the day of the shoot-took a few shots (not in the best quality)...but can't help but share with all of you a tiny glimpse (below) of how it all came together. Again, thank you for your patience...I promise, more details coming soon!

Got room for a preciously pink wedding with poms? (Laughing) Do I even have to ask? There is just so much you can do with them! This was a special project shared with us and the wonderful Nai from Party Poms. Of course, we had the vision of our Bride, Nicole, getting married at the wonderful Tampa Palm Gulf and Country Club.

The absolutely gorgeous bride and groom, Nicole and Paul, used their wedding day as a chance to host their nearest and dearest in a celebration that reflected their own unique personlities…something that makes me over-the-moon happy to be able to share it with you on Chic Sweets.

What better way to end the day than with the most gorgeous, little wedding you’ve ever seen. The sweetest little details. The loveliest of lovely brides. With photographs by Luminaire Foto and a lovely pink and damask print dessert table by us…it’s the picture perfect wedding to end the week!

Having come down from up North, this small, intimate affair was sooo much fun (seriously: fun), and could the flower girl be any cuter?? Shelby and Chris were such a joy to work with I could not be happier to share a few moments of their joy. The day had been so gloomy and rainy but as the rain-gods would have it, the sun came out the moment their ceremony began. Nothing seemed to bother Shelby and Chris who are undeniably smitten with eachother.

Real Wedding: Kate and Brandon

Radiant. Yep, I think that pretty well sums up Kate's look on her wedding day. It was the stunning (seriously: stunning) orange and pink portrait midway down that first caught my eye on Carrie Wildes Photography, and though Kate and Brandon's Florida destination wedding has some lovely details, it was really the love this couple has for each other that told me we had to share this wedding.

And as a pink fanatic, it’s not surprising that I love the bright pink color palate, but what I’m really swooning over are the fun splashes of orange in the bridesmaids’ summery frocks and blooming bouquets.

Of course, it was sooo much fun to design the dessert table-Kate made it very clear-she wanted "fun-fantasy." So we played around with gerbera daisies and some jumbo pink balloons that served as our backdrop for the table. We also worked with an amazing orange-striped print that pulled everything together.

Family Photoshoot

Happy Monday (well almost)!

Well here I am...Natalie. So today, I thought I would share the flip side of my other passion in life...my precious family. I have to say that I never thought when I headed into this field that I would be posing for photo shoots, but these kind of unexpected surprises are what makes going out on my own totally worth it! For some time, I've been in desperate need of some photographs of my family but for miscellaneous reasons (work, kids, life, etc.) never got around to getting them done. Of course, the only person to get the job done was Rebecca Zoumberos from Limelight Photography!

The logistics of getting ready was a little nervewracking...what to wear....will the kids behave...can I manage to loose the extra pounds :) However, once we arrived at Limelight's beautiful studio (also affectionately known as "The Z Farm"), all the nervousness kind of went away. Rebecca is so easy going that to my surprise, once I relaxed a little and stopped thinking about how funny I probably looked, we had a great time and really loved how the photos turned out. Having all the kids run around crazy, definitely helps and really, could they be any cuter (Husband included)??

Well, enough talk…lets get on to the pictures!

Glamorous Bling-Inspired Wedding at The Don Cesar

So finally getting around to posting some professional pictures from recent events. Julie ~ today’s beautiful bride ~spent over a year planning her wedding! She knew what she liked and set about assembling a team who could help her achieve it. Staci at Unique Event Design, Alicia at Pure Emotions, Samantha from Signature Event Design (and of course, Chic Sweets) all played significant roles in their areas of wedding expertise!

Of course, this couple was really easy to fall in love with. First of all, the ceremony and reception was held at the BEAUTIFUL Don Cesar Beach Resort. Yep, total gorgeousness. Second, this couple are madly in love with each other and both have that glowy, hopelessly smitten look after 10 years of marriage! Yes, that is right. After being unable to afford the wedding they wanted the first time around, they finally decided to have their dream wedding. And third, the wedding style is pretty much as gorgeous as you can get with dark red roses, the custom damask print, and a wedding gown that is as sexy as it is timeless and little handmade details that are all about the charm.

The dessert table, was so much fun to create, from the rock candy-to the shots of milk served alongside chocolate dipped oreo cookies, it was pretty much to-die-for (and delicious). As always, thanks to Linens by the Sea for delivering the most beautiful linens. Enjoy!

Morgan's Inspired Dora Party!

Finally! Breaking my blogging drought! I can’t believe how busy we have been these days! We are growing and more fun opportunities keep coming my way, which is such a blessing, but leaves me with little time to do anything else but work.

So with that, I will leave you with a few parting shots from a recent birthday party for a wonderful little girl, by the name of Morgan. Her mother, is an amazing mother and works for the wonderful Cafe a la Carte (a delicious mobile gourmet Espresso, Latte & Cappuccino Bar).

The lighting was difficult so pardon the photos! Hopefully soon, will be able to share some additional photos from recent events we've had these past few weeks.

Also, I will be posting some exciting news coming shortly for a shoot we are working on with an amazing team.... (which I'm kind of bursting at the seams about)....stay tuned!

Dessert Table: Bridal Showcase

I am back from The Davis Island Garden Club's Bridal Showcase, produced by the talented "chicks" of Table 6 Productions and the event TOTALLY lived up to its name. Unlike any bridal event I have ever been to, Shannon (and team) hand-selected some of the best vendors in the industry: Limelight Photography; Stonehouse Events; Cafe Ala Carte; Shutterbooth Tampa, etc. The list goes on....

Now on to what was included in the dessert table. Yes, we know that we are seeing vintage, autumnal weddings everywhere, but we thought that we would shake things up a bit with a more bright and contemporary look for table. I came across this wild sunflower print and just wanted to incorporate that alongside another great print that was used to line all our vessals. Finally, we also let perfect cupcakes take center stage and completed the look by adding giant, yellow balloons for a cost effective pop of loveliness.

We had a great time working on this table and I hope you enjoy the pics (better ones coming soon...I promise!)

Davis Island Garden Club Bridal Showcase

So we are running on little sleep right now as we get our dessert table ready for the 3rd Annual Davis Island Bridal Showcase coming up on Sunday, February 28 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM. Produced by the wonderful, Table Six Productions' Shannon Wilson, each one of the vendors are hand-picked and are some of the best in the industry.

So to give you a few details on what we are doing...we're going with a bright yellow and gorgeous blue palatte. We have a great yellow, wildflower print that we are working with and it's just precious. Even though it's freezing, I wanted the table to feel modern, crisp and just like "spring." The Cupcake Spot and Better Bit of Butter are working hard this week on some special desserts that will be included on the table. Thanks to my amazing team for pulling everything together this week!

This really is going to be an amazing show-see you there!

Dessert Table-Taste of 7, Special Equestrians

I usually do not like to post events until after I receive photos but this was such a special event for me, that I could not resist. Anna from Lucia/Paul Design (with a fabulous team behind her) created an amazing event for Special Equestrians, a wondeful organization that...well, I'll just let her tell you in her own words....

"The event is called Taste of Love 7 and it is to benefit an organization that is near and dear to my heart called Special Equestrians. Special Equestrians is a 501 c 3 organization that does some pretty amazing things. I have had the honor and the privilege to be a part of the board for almost 8 years (even through all of my travels and moving around) and it's one that I will never leave. Special Equestrians is comprised of only three part-time employees and a slew of amazingly talented and dedicated volunteers...including everyone on the board. Every hard earned dollar that they make goes directly to the program to help cover the expenses and the small salaries for our part-time heroes."
